Collection Grade Phantom Calcite on Purple Amethyst Specimen
A rare phantom calcite specimen from the world-renowned town of Ametista do Sul, this piece sits beautifully on a bed of purple amethyst, forming a mineral masterpiece that will surely find its way into a respected collection or become a centerpiece in your décor.
The first thing that draws the eye is the prominent scalenohedral calcite group. Its well-defined terminations rise out of the amethyst druzy like a small bouquet of points. The calcite shows a soft creamy-to-butter tone, with warm honey staining that reads completely natural.
Adding to the aesthetics, the calcite displays visible phantoms within multiple points, an uncommon collector feature, especially when clearly defined like the ones seen here. Calcite phantoms form when crystal growth pauses or slows, leaving a snapshot of an earlier crystal face. Later growth seals that earlier outline inside the new calcite.
Compared to quartz phantoms, which are more frequently encountered, calcite phantoms appear less often and are commonly faint or partial. In this specimen, multiple terminations show sharp phantom zoning, a beautiful detail for calcite collectors.
One termination has a small ding. No restoration was done, and this was a deliberate choice to preserve the crystal’s authentic, natural condition.
The size, color, and overall quality of this specimen make it a rare find, well suited for a high-level collection. Please check the pictures for a closer look, and feel free to message us with any questions or special requests.
