This is an exceptional large Gypsum var. Selenite specimen from Santa Lúcia, Planalto, Brazil, a locality known among collectors for producing unusually transparent, sharply terminated crystals on matrix. Brazilian Selenite from this region is especially prized for the combination of collector-scale size, water-clear transparency, pronounced natural growth lines, and well-developed terminations.
Selenite is the transparent crystalline variety of Gypsum, a soft sulfate mineral admired for its glass-like clarity, silky to vitreous luster, and distinctive striated growth surfaces. This specimen displays a dramatic multi-crystal formation, with several large blades rising from the original matrix in different directions and overlapping to create a highly architectural composition.
The main crystals show broad water-clear sections with excellent light transmission, while their surfaces preserve strong parallel growth lines and delicate etched textures that clearly reveal the natural development of the gypsum. Several crystals terminate in sharp, well-defined points, with smaller secondary crystals growing between and around the larger blades.
The contrast between the transparent Selenite and the darker natural matrix gives the specimen exceptional depth and display presence. Large, transparent, terminated Brazilian Gypsum specimens of this quality are increasingly difficult to find, making this an important collector piece from Santa Lúcia, Planalto, Brazil.
Brazilian selenite is prized for a different combination of qualities than the famous Naica material from Mexico: collector-scale size, exceptional transparency, pronounced growth lines, and formed beautifully terminated crystals. Specimens of this quality have become increasingly difficult to find, as the Brazilian sources that produced comparable large terminated material are no longer active.

An important note about this specimen: unlike many Brazilian selenite clusters on the market, this is not a glued or reconstructed piece. The crystals, terminations, matrix, and overall formation are all naturally connected exactly as they formed, with no crystals added, repositioned, or attached. This is a completely natural, untouched mineral specimen.
